Dressing for sessions is easy when you plan on doing a newborn session. Most of the time, the photographer has everything you need already there for you! For family sessions, it's a little different. Getting the whole family to match can surely be a challenge.
Family photos are so important. Moments are fleeting and memories need to be captured along the way.
So how should your family dress for photo sessions?
Well, the first question you want to answer is what type of photo session you'd like to capture. Do you want a formal session? A casual session? A session that captures your favorite hobby?
I've seen everything from racing families in racing attire, to families who ensure their family is all in formal-wear, to white shirts and blue jeans.
It's really up to you.
It is important to note, however, that your outfit will reflect on the style of the session. For example, if you all wear white shirts and jeans, it will look like a casual family session. There likely isn't going to be a fairytale, formal look to the style of the picture.
If you all show up in dress clothes, your photos will look formal and elegant.
What your session looks like is all dependent on you. What you wear determines how the session will turn out.
Here are a few tips for dressing for your session:
1. Coordinate color schemes. Make sure your family is wearing similar colors. Neutral colors often look the best!
2. If children are wearing white, bring a change of clothes! If you want your younger children to wear white or a lighter color, I'd recommend bringing a change of clothing, as they will probably get dirty!
3. Avoid patterns and logos. Plaid can look adorable, as shown above, but too much can cause the eyes to go crazy! Plaid and stripes are patterns that draw our eye, meaning that we will likely be focusing on your shirts rather than your pretty faces.
